Galicia Old Boys deserved Jeff Butterfield Award
 
Jeff Butterfield Award big silver cup, donated by Barbara Butterfield, will be kept for the next two years in north-west of Spain in the clubhouse of Galicia Old Boys. This most precious EVRA European Festival Award has been presented, at the Gala Dinner in Congress Centre in Estoril, to Jorge Fraguela, Galicia Old Boys President  by the EVRA Secretary Marko Protega.
 
In this part of Spain with the inhabitants of Celtic origin, Rugby has a long tradition. Although the first match Gloucester v. Liverpool Frigate has been played in La Corunha (Riazor Stadium) on October 13th 1911 it took "some time“ until the first Galicia team has been founded  - University of Santiago in 1935. In 1981 Galician Rugby Federation was formed by Maxi Casares, todays captain of "old boys“ - that started to exist in different clubs in the 90s of the last century.
 
Decision to form a team of Galician veterans has been made on initiative of CR Ferrol and CRAT Corunha to take part at European Festival in Madeira in 2008. Galicia Old Boys are the selection of players from CRAT/Corunha, CR Ferrol, Mareantes, C.D. Zalaeta, CDU Santiago and others like Philosophy Santiago, Ingleses, Xabarin, Lalin, or Vigo. 
 
Galicia Selected Old XV took part at three European Festivals - Madeira (2008), Caernarfon (2010), Cascais (2011) - also with guest players from Independent Santander and Belenos of Asturias clubs.Galicia Old Boys incorporate the tradition of their Celtic origin, just to mention some of them: Galicia "Kilt“, traditional "Queimada“ - performed at all festivals/tournaments, or the "Haka Galega“ based on the traditional song "A Rianxeira“. Speaking with the President of Galicia Old Boys, Jorge Fraguela and the Secretary Ramon A. Bernat at the Gala Dinner in Estoril, their intention to "come back“ in Hungary in 2013.
